The "Friends" actress and ex of Brad Pitt has reportedly decided to have some of her eggs chilled, should she decide to have babies at a later date. According to Star magazine, Aniston is so busy working and hasn't yet found the right guy with whom to build a family, and so she's bought herself some time by freezing her eggs.
Aniston's PR peeps have dismissed the rumor, but the tabloid's source revealed, "She's giving herself a big break from the intense pressure to find Mr. Right and have kids. She's in a good place now." The tipster also said that Jenn had received advice from her friend, Sheryl Crow, that she should consider adoption as a possibility, but Jennifer was hoping to keep open the option of conceiving her own baby. I almost feel like this is a romantic-comedy premise waiting to happen.

You can't freeze eggs without sperm yet and at age 40+ in harvesting.. there is a great risk for chromosome damage.In other words those eggs are too old..

actually, you can freeze eggs. The technology has been around for several years. Successful thawing is not 100% though.

And yes, the difficulty is harvesting enough viable eggs the older the woman gets, and yes, the defrosting process has a certain amount of risk.

NYU most certainly did NOT invent egg freezing. Europeans have been freezing eggs for close to a decade and several of my friends have frozen their eggs in Manhattan and Beverly Hills with a group called Extend Fertility. However, it is true that 40 is pushing the age limited to do this...ladies should be freezing younger healthier eggs. My friends did it when they were 35. Still I think it's fabulous that she's taking control of her life rather than feeling pressured by all the Brangelina craziness. Good God can you imagine your husband cheats on you and humiliates in front of the world and then you have to deal with countless crazies defending him....ick!!!!!

Seriously not many here have their facts straight. It was the Italians who invented egg cryopreservation" aka egg freezing. There are 500 children that have been born worldwide this way. So far as I know, in NYC, only NYU and Extend Fertility via RMA (Mt Sinai) are doing the procedure. I went to a lecture on the topic tonight given by Extend. NYU does not have such a lecture but they provide written materials. The cost is not enormous (well, at least I don't think so). It is about 9 to 14 K for the procedure and one year of freezing. The drugs to hyperstimulate follicle production are another 2-4K.
Also, even though it would be optimal to free your eggs when you are younger, that is, in your 20's, most women wouldn't consider it at that age because they feel that have a shot getting pregnant the 'natural' way. It's only when women hit their thirties, and unfortunately their eggs decline in quality, do they consider this. Extend's cut-off age is about 42. I am not sure what NYU's cut off age is since I am not there yet. I read both NYU's materials and Extend's and both seem ok to me. Not sure what I am going to do and I am 36 1/2. I know I will do it through one of them though.
